Sam Fender issues apology for calling Johnny Depp a hero

In a group selfie taken on June 1, British singer-songwriter Sam Fender referred to Johnny Depp as a hero, which has since been deleted.

The photo was posted on the day of Depp’s defamation trial judgment against Amber Heard, but Fender quickly removed it and apologized for the photo’s and caption’s purported connotations.

The 28-year-old singer was photographed alongside 58-year-old Johnny Depp and 77-year-old Jeff Beck, among others.

The band was performing at The Bridge Tavern in Newcastle, where Depp and Beck would later perform.

The Seventeen Going Under singer, on the other hand, faced a lot of backlashes because the Instagram photo was taken before Depp’s victory in the trial.

Some objected to Depp being called to as one of the ‘heroes’ in the group, despite Amber Heard’s claims of domestic and sexual assault at the time.

Fans of Fender reacted angrily to the criticism, arguing that he should not have to apologize for meeting someone he admires.
