The actor Jason Rocco Anthony Spezza (born June 13, 1983) is a former centre in the professional ice hockey league for Canada. Spezza played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 19 seasons between 2002 and 2022, and he is currently a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ front office.
After beginning his major junior career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) at the age of 15 and being selected second overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, Spezza eventually became the team captain following Daniel Alfredsson’s departure.
In 2004–05, while playing for the Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League (AHL) due to the NHL lockout, he won the Les Cunningham Award as league MVP.
Spezza set a franchise record with 71 assists for the Ottawa Senators in 2005–06, while reaching the 90-point plateau for the first of two occasions in his NHL career. Afterwards, he played with the Dallas Stars and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Spezza represented Canada internationally at three World Junior Championships and two World Championships. In 2000, he became the third 16-year-old in history to make the World Junior squad, following Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros.
