Journalist and host of Banfield Ashleigh Dennistoun Banfield (born December 29, 1967) is a Canadian-American. She previously hosted Early Start and Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield on CNN.Banfield had her education in her native Canada at Winnipeg, Manitoba’s exclusive university preparatory Balmoral Hall School, which her mother, Suzie (Holland) Lount, also attended in the 1950s. Banfield left the school in 1985. She continued her studies in French at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992. She had previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and French from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.Banfield started her career in 1988 at CKY-TV in Winnipeg and CJBN-TV in Kenora, Ontario. She anchored the weekend news for CFRN-TV in Edmonton from 1989 to 1992. She was employed by CICT-TV in Calgary from 1992 to 1993 as a producer and from 1993 to 1995 as an evening news anchor and business correspondent. In 1994, Banfield took home two Iris Awards for Best News Documentary and Best of Festival During her time at CICT-TV, Banfield worked as a contract associate producer for ABC’s World News Tonight. She covered the summits between Bush and Gorbachev in 1991 in Russia and Clinton and Yeltsin in April 1993 in Vancouver.
