American football quarterback Cameron Jerrell Newton was born on May 11, 1989, and is now a free agent. He has 11 seasons of playing experience, mostly with the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers (NFL). After winning MVP, Newton battled with injuries, and during the next four years, the Panthers only made it to the playoffs once.
He was cut before his tenth season, and in 2020 he played for the New England Patriots. After being released by the Patriots the following year, Newton joined the Panthers again in the middle of the 2021 campaign but was not later re-signed. Newton was re-signed by the Patriots on March 12, 2021, to a one-year contract for up to $13.6 million. He faced up against rookie first-round selection pick Mac Jones in training camp.
He left the New England region on August 21 to attend a meeting. He was asked to stay away from the team facility for five days despite numerous COVID-19 tests coming back negative. He missed four days of practice leading up to their preseason game because of this. He did, however, virtually take part in the exercises.
In time for the team’s last preseason game, Newton was able to join them again and participated in that contest. Newton was released by the Patriots on August 31 as part of the final roster cuts.
