Alan Dedicoat (born 1 December 1954) is a BBC One announcer in the United Kingdom. Since 1995, he has been the “Voice of the Balls” on National Lottery shows, delivering a narration for the drawings.
He worked as a newsreader for BBC Radio 2 until March 2015, when he retired. Dedicoat is the announcer for Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One and Dancing with the Stars in the United States.
Dancing with the Stars, the American version of Strictly Come Dancing, which airs yearly on ABC, hired him as an announcer in 2005. He has done the voice-over for the CBBC show Copycats since 2009.
He was a regular voiceover performer for trailers on BBC Television in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Sun reportedly got a recording of Dedicoat in 2015,
in which he purportedly claimed that the BBC permitted a “drug peddler” to transport Class A narcotics to staff desks. He afterwards apologized and reversed his remarks.
