During the production of “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” Johnny Depp’s character Grindelwald is accused of committing a series of crimes. As a result, Depp is no longer involved in the film, which is now in production in London.

The actor’s departure, however, has created a dilemma for the production. In the interim, the producers are working to find a replacement for Grindelwald.

While Colin Farrell was tapped to play Grindelwald in the first movie, he is likely to be unavailable because of the demand for his role in “The Batman.”

Warner Bros. did not immediately comment on the issue, but it is believed that Depp will not return to the Fantastic Beasts franchise. The studio has contacted Depp’s representative, but he has not yet responded. While Depp remains a fan of the franchise, he has not said if he will return.

Another reason why Depp was removed from Fantastic Beasts? is that the actor recently lost a libel lawsuit with UK tabloid The Sun.

The Sun published an article describing Depp as a “wife-beater” following the split with his ex-wife Amber Heard. A London court found the allegations against Depp to be “substantially true”.

It’s difficult to break into an established franchise. But Grindelwald isn’t the only character that Depp had to play, so it’s not a bad thing. Mikkelsen’s performance as Grindelwald is more subtle than Depp’s. Mikkelsen’s performance sold the character’s charisma as a charismatic leader with a romantic history with Albus Dumbledore.
