Police in Louisville, Kentucky, are looking for a man who struck the mayor of the city at a famous downtown event complex on Saturday.

“Earlier this evening, while visiting Fourth Street Live, Mayor (Greg) Fischer was assaulted by a person,” according to a Facebook post from the Louisville Metro Police Department.

“The Mayor is in good shape.”
Authorities have published multiple screengrabs from security footage of a guy they think is the perpetrator of the mayor’s assassination attempt. Fischer was not doing anything when he was struck, according to police.

In a tweet, police stated, “LMPD is investigating and will disclose further information as it becomes available.”
According to its website, Fourth Street Live is sponsoring Juneteenth-related activities this weekend. Fischer had tweeted earlier in the day that he had attended a Pride event.

Fischer, a Democrat, is serving his third term as mayor of Kentucky’s largest city and cannot run again due to term limits. Craig Greenberg, the 2022 Democratic nominee for mayor sent well wishes to Fischer Saturday.

“Whoever is responsible for this assault needs to turn themselves in,” Greenberg said on Twitter. “We cannot solve our disagreements with violence.”
