In 2017, McGrath was appointed “senior advisor to the governor, deputy chief of staff, and liaison to the Maryland Board of Public Works.” He quickly became a trusted advisor to Governor Hogan, and his responsibilities expanded over time.
In May 2020, after the departure of Matthew Clark, McGrath was appointed as Hogan’s chief of staff.
