Ty Cobb is an American attorney born in 1950. From 1981 to 1986, he served as an assistant US attorney for the District of Maryland.
Cobb is the son of Grover C. Cobb, a Kansas radio station owner who served as the NAB’s senior executive vice-president (which named one of their prestigious awards for him).
Cobb’s father played a crucial part in the establishment of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters while serving as vice president and general manager of KVGB (AM)/FM in Great Bend. According to reports, Cobb is related distantly to the Hall of Fame baseball player with the same name.
Growing up, Cobb lived in Great Bend, Kansas.
Cobb earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his law degree from Georgetown University. Cobb and Senator Al Franken became great friends at Harvard.
In Washington, D.C., he was a partner at Hogan Lovells. He was a member of the Trump administration’s legal staff from July 2017 to May 2018.

In a new interview, Cobb said Trump acted in a “criminal” manner when he sought to have then-Vice President Mike Pence block Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win.
Cobb also said Trump’s conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, while a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol, could lead to him being barred from seeking the presidency.
