Samuel Brinton, an Energy Department deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition, allegedly stole a suitcase worth $3,670 in July.
A woman traveling from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas reported one of her checked bags missing shortly after the incident.
Brinton is facing up to five years in prison for allegedly stealing luggage in Minnesota. He now faces up to 10 years for another alleged bag theft in Nevada.
Brinton is accused of stealing a suitcase worth $2,325 from an airport baggage carousel and examining its tag before hurrying away.
