Tributes are pouring in from around the world for a Nova Scotia rap battler who was killed over the weekend.
Pat Stay died after being stabbed in downtown Halifax early Sunday. The 36-year-old was well known in the hip hop scene, with many renowned artists, including Eminem recognizing the loss to the community.
A man has been detained by Halifax Regional Police in connection with the murder of battle rapper Pat Stay.
In the early hours of September 4, Stay, 36, lost his life after being stabbed in the 1600 block of Lower Water Street in the heart of Halifax.
Police said in a bulletin on Saturday afternoon that a 31-year-old male had been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Stay.
No other information was included in the release, although it did state that one would be when it became available. The man is not facing any charges.
A cellphone that might have been discovered in the vicinity of Prince and Lower Water Streets following the homicide was reported missing on Friday by HRP. If the phone was found was not mentioned in the release on Saturday.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the police, who ask that anybody with information about Stay’s murder call them at 902-490-5020 or provide an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers online or by dialing 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Since Stay’s passing, his loved ones, friends, and the music industry have been paying respect to him.
Stay was described as “an honorable man who was on his way to a bright future” on a GoFundMe page created to raise money for his family.
Rapper Eminem was one of many who paid tribute to him, calling him “one of the best battlers of all time” on Twitter.
In a memorial post on Instagram, fellow Canadian singer Drake referred to Stay as “one of my favourite rappers ever.”
