Irish born Journalist Orla Guerin MBE, She works as a correspondent for the BBC news.

Early Life and Education

She was born on 15th May 1966 in Dublin Ireland she attended a convent school she is a graduate of Dublin institute of technology where she pursued a program in journalism will stop in 1985 she qualified with a certificate in journalism from the college of commerce in Dublin she also has a master’s degree in Film studies from the University college Dublin.

Orla Guerin’s Career

Before the RTÉ News in 1987, she worked at Sunday Tribune a newspaper based in Dublin. On joining the RTÉ she became it youngest correspondent to work from Eastern Europe.

Orla’s Career at the BBC

After her unsuccessful venture into politics, she joined the BBC in 1993. Working from Rome she served as the corporation’s southern Europe correspondent until June 2000. A year later she was appointed the BBC’s Jerusalem correspondent.

A misunderstanding arose between the BBC and the Israel government due to a a report Orla made on about a teenage would-be suicide bomber. She was replaced by Caroline Hawley.

She served as African’s correspondent in Johannesburg before being moved to Pakistan. She covered the Venezuelan presidential Crises in 2019. Currently she is based in Kyiv, Ukraine reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Personal life and Awards

Guerin and Reuters correspondent Michael Gregory got married.

Orla has received many honary degrees from renowned universities.

Awards

Guerin won the Broadcaster of the Year award from the London Press Club in 2002. In 2003 she was awarded the News and Factual Award by Women in Film and Television UK.She was awarded an MBE (Honorary) for services to broadcasting in 2005.
