Who is Jeremiah Jones? Alleged Murderer of 9-year-old Khylie Sorrells

The man wanted in the fatal Monday shooting of his ex-9-year-old girlfriend’s daughter has been captured and charged by Houston police.

According to the Houston Police Department, Jeremiah Jones, 22, is charged with capital murder and assault with a deadly weapon after fatally shooting the 9-year-old and wounding her mother, 29, at 404 Oxford Street.

-“The family got separated. The suspect here executed a 9-year-old little girl in the apartment with a handgun,” Det. Sgt. Michael Cass said Tuesday. “He then went after the mother, and she was shot.”

The mother was watching television with the child and her two other children, ages 1 and 3, when Jones arrived at their apartment uninvited just before 10 p.m. and began shooting, according to FOX Houston.

Jones then fled the scene of the shooting and was on the run until around 6 p.m. Tuesday, when officials tracked him down in the 22300 block of Imperial Valley Drive and apprehended him without incident.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Tuesday, “This horrific act of domestic violence hits home for me and the HPD family.”
Khylie Sorrells, 9, was the 9-year-old victim, and Britney Sorrells, 29, was the 29-year-old victim, according to a GoFundMe website.

Khylie would have turned ten on July 10, according to her mother’s GoFundMe page, who also stated that her daughter was “shot and killed by an ex boyfriend.”

Britney wrote, “I don’t wish this type of misery on anyone, especially a youngster [sic].” According to her mother, Khylie was a starting basketball player who enjoyed spending time with her two sisters.

“I’m not asking for much, I don’t even know where to begin,” the mother stated. “I’m hurting my family and want justiceā€¦”

Authorities transported Khylie’s mother to a local hospital following the shooting, where she was treated and released. Khylie was declared dead on the spot.
