According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, a manhunt was underway in Mississippi early Friday morning after a police officer was fatally shot.
On Thursday afternoon, an unnamed Meridian Police officer was located near the Alabama border on 51st Avenue in Meridian, Mississippi.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Meridian Police Department, a woman who has not been identified was found deceased inside a home near the gunshot scene.

Dante Marquez Bender, 31, is suspected of being armed and dangerous, and is reported to be driving a 2004 black Nissan Armada with the tag “IMANI.”
He’s 5’11”, 299 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair.
He was last seen wearing a purple hoodie and purple sweatpants at 2408 51st Avenue in Meridian at around 5:36 p.m., which was the time and location of the shooting.
He’s thought to be near I-59 and I-20.
