Officials have verified that a Florida dentist has been suspected of paying hitmen to kill his sister’s ex-husband, a local law professor, so the woman could return to the area with her children.
Charles Adelson, 45, was detained on suspicion of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation to commit murder on Thursday. He was ordered to be kept in the Broward County Jail without bail pending his trial.
Prosecutors and investigators have long suspected Adelson and other members of his family of being involved in the shooting of Florida State University law professor Daniel Markel by two men at his Tallahassee home on July 18, 2014.
Markel, 41, was married to Wendi Adelson, who had been unable to come to South Florida due to Markel’s joint custody of their two young children following a bitter divorce.
