Following a brief standoff in the West End area, San Rafael police said a man led them on a chase through the city’s downtown before being apprehended.
According to police Sgt. Justin Graham, the incident started on Tuesday when San Rafael resident Bryan Donan Lopez-Lopez, 25, came dangerously close to colliding with a police vehicle near Third Street and Lincoln Avenue.
When the officer’s trip to a medical emergency was postponed, he was able to locate the suspect’s car, according to Graham.
The guy fled after the officer attempted to pull him over, taking police on a pursuit through the West End neighborhood and “doing many evasive maneuvers,” according to Graham.
When the suspect drove onto Ray Court, a dead end street next to Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery, the pursuit came to a halt. At that point, he started “moving erratically in the car.” Graham claimed that it took more than 20 minutes of “de-escalation tactics and dialogue” to convince him to comply.
Lopez-Lopez was arrested and lodged at the Marin County Jail on charges of felony fleeing, DUI, obstruction, and driving without a license. As of Thursday morning, he was no longer being held.
