On November 8, 1847, Stoker was born in Clontarf, Dublin, Ireland, at 15 Marino Crescent.  Bram Stoker Park is the current name for the park that is next to the home.  His parents were Charlotte Mathilda Blake Thornley (1818–1901), a native of County Sligo, and Abraham Stoker (1799–1876), a native of Dublin.  Sir Thornley Stoker, 1st Bt. was the oldest of Stoker’s seven siblings, and he was the third child overall.  Abraham and Charlotte were members of the Clontarf Church of Ireland Parish and regularly attended services there with their baptized children. Abraham was a senior member of the government.
Stoker was brought up in the Church of Ireland as a Protestant. He was a fervent Liberal Party supporter and was very interested in Irish matters. He supported peacefully enacted Home Rule for Ireland as a “philosophical home ruler.”
