Kenneka Jenkins, 19, was discovered dead inside a locked freezer at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel in Rosemont, Illinois, on September 8, 2017, after attending a party there.
Jenkins’ death was ruled accidental by the medical examiner. Jenkins was found to have alcohol and topiramate in her system, which may have exacerbated the effects of hypothermia caused by her prolonged stay inside the freezer.
Despite the fact that the Rosemont police department did not suspect foul play, they noted that their investigation was still ongoing. Jenkins’ family and friends were outraged by the initial police response, prompting a lawsuit against the hotel and others.
During the investigation, Jenkins’ friends’ accounts of what happened after the party remained contradictory. Jenkins was drunk and missing when she went missing, according to one of her friends.
“Find Kenneka,” the message said, adding “I can’t believe ya’ll [sic] lost her.” They informed Martin that Jenkins had gone downstairs with a group of individuals, but they left her alone to go to one of the hotel rooms and collect a cellphone.
