Melissa Lou Etheridge is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and activist. Melissa Etheridge’s self-titled debut album was an underground sensation when it was released in 1988.
The album’s opening hit, “Bring Me Some Water,” earned Etheridge her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female.
For the track “Ain’t It Heavy” from her third album, Never Enough, Etheridge won her first Grammy award in 1993.
Later that year, she released Yes I Am, which would go on to become her mainstream breakthrough album.
The songs “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window” both charted in the top 30 in the US, with the latter earning Etheridge her second Grammy prize.
Yes I Am peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 138 weeks, earning her a 6 Platinum RIAA certification, making it her best-selling album to date.
