Matt Bettinelli-Olpin is an American film director, screenwriter, actor, and musician from Oakland, California, the United States of America. Bettinelli-Olpin is a founding member of the punk band Link 80 and co-creator of the filmmaking collectives Chad, Matt & Rob and Radio Silence.
As a film producer, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin is best known for his horror films, including V/H/S, Southbound, Ready or Not and Scream. While working in the mailroom at New Line Cinema, Bettinelli-Olpin formed the filmmaking collective Chad, Matt & Rob in 2007 and Radio Silence in 2011.
Bettinelli-Olpin formed the Bay Area punk band Link 80 in 1993 where he contributed lyrics, guitar and backing vocals as part of their first two albums, 17 Reasons and Killing Katie. He later departed from the band.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin worked as a music journalist. He interviewed bands including Alkaline Trio, Dropkick Murphys, Lawrence Arms, Avail, Blur, Violent Femmes, the Breeders, the Mars Volta and the Psychedelic Furs.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin had directed Alkaline Trio’s first music video (Goodbye Forever) in. As part of the The Radio Silence collective, they directed a segment in the feature film, V/H/S,”which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
