Mary Lou Finlay is a Canadian radio and television journalist best known for hosting various CBC Radio and CBC Television programs. Finlay earned a BA in English and French literature from the University of Ottawa in 1967. She worked for the Canadian War Museum for three years before transitioning to journalism and hosting a CBC Ottawa television magazine.
Finlay relocated to Toronto in 1975 to co-host CBC Television’s Take 30. In 1976 and 1977, she hosted her own show, Finlay and Company, and gained a devoted following. She joined CTV in 1978 to co-host and produce the award-winning Live It Up! show. She co-hosted CBC Television’s nightly current affairs program, The Journal, with Barbara Frum in 1981.
Frum remained the program’s sole host after the first year, and Finlay became a documentary reporter, remaining with the program until 1988. That same year, she took over as host of CBC Radio’s current affairs program Sunday Morning, a position she held until the spring of 1994. She hosted Now The Details, CBC Radio’s weekly media watchdog program, from 1994 to 1997.
