Jennifer Beals is an actress and former adolescent model from the United States who made her film debut in the 1980s film My Bodyguard.
For her role in Flashdance in 1983, she won the NAACP Image Award for Actress and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.
Beals grew up in Chicago, where she discovered her love for acting while performing in a high school production of Fiddler on the Roof.
Working at a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop was Beals’ first job. Beals was 13 at the time, but she got the job by lying about her age.
Alfred Beals, her father, was African-American, and Jeanne, her mother, was Irish-American.
Beals has two brothers, Robert and Gregory. Because she was mixed racial, Beals feels she felt like an outcast growing up.
