Janez Matičič (3 June 1926 – April 2022) was a Slovenian composer and pianist.
He taught music for a number of years. Since 2007 he was a regular member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts

18 April – Janez Matii, a composer and pianist who was one of Slovenia’s most well-known modern composers, died at the age of 95.
His work was mostly focused on piano music, which he also performed.
For his efforts, he received various honors, including the Preeren Prize for lifetime accomplishment.

Janez Matii was a Slovenian composer and pianist who lived from June 3, 1926, until April 20, 2022. He was a music teacher for many years.
He has been a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2007.
Matii was born in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana. In 1950, he received his bachelor’s degree in composition and his master’s degree in conducting from the Ljubljana Academy of Music. He studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris from 1959 to 1961.
He worked with the Groupe de Recherches Musicales, which experimented with electroacoustic music under the leadership of Pierre Schaeffer, from 1959 until 1975.
Two concertos for piano and orchestra, a concerto for cello and orchestra, and a number of modernist and experimental compositions are among Matii’s works.
He was awarded the Preeren Award for lifetime accomplishment in music in 2007.
