Kennedy, a member of the Republican Party, is vying to keep his seat as Louisiana’s senator from the United States. He announced his candidacy for the November 8, 2022, primary.

Kennedy was one of six Republican senators who voted to uphold a challenge to Arizona’s electoral votes put forth by Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Paul Gosar in January 2021, as the electoral votes were being counted.

By a vote of 6-93, the Senate voted against upholding the objection to Arizona’s electoral votes, and by a vote of 121-303, the House also voted against upholding this objection.

Kennedy held the role of Louisiana State Treasurer from 2000 to 2017. Kennedy was a Democrat for two of his five terms before changing parties in 2007. In 2007, 2011, and 2015, Republicans helped him win re-election.

Who is Senator John Kennedy?

From 2002 through 2016, John worked as an adjunct lecturer at Louisiana State University. He frequently offers his services as a teacher’s aide in Louisianna public schools.

His career as a conservative voice for the state’s citizens began after he was elected to the US Senate in 2016. Prior to that, he held the position of Louisiana’s state treasurer for five terms.

He was a partner and attorney at the same legal firm where his wife worked, Chaffe McCall.
