Near Urbana in central Champaign County, Jordan and his wife Polly reside. Jordan first came into contact with them through her wrestling-teammate brothers.


At 13 and 14, respectively, Polly and Jordan started dating. They have two grandchildren in addition to four children. Jordan’s son-in-law and professional basketball player Jarrod Uthoff.

Jordan grew up in Champaign County, Ohio, as the son of Shirley and John Jordan. He went to Graham High School and wrestled for them, graduating in 1982. He won state titles all four years of high school and had a 156-1 win-loss record.


As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jordan went on to win two NCAA Division I wrestling championships. In the 134-pound (61 kg) weight division, Jordan won the NCAA championship matches in 1985 and 1986.

In 1986, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. At the 1988 US Olympic wrestling trials, he lost the 126-137-pound (57-62 kg) featherweight semifinal match and did not make the Olympic team.
