Is Ibrahima Diallo leaving Southampton for La Liga?

Ibrahima Diallo, a midfielder for Southampton, is in talks to join La Liga powerhouse Valencia, and L’Equipe reports that the Premier League club would prefer a sale over a temporary loan.

Rarely does a team the size of Southampton spend $14 million for an 18-year-old with just one senior football start under his belt. Romeo Lavia is undoubtedly highly special in the eyes of the Saints.

And if Diallo was already having trouble getting regular playing time before Lavia arrived, the former target of Arsenal now seems to be at severe risk of falling much farther down Ralph Hasenhuttl’s priority list.

In 2021–2022, Diallo only began 10 Premier League games. The defensive midfielder of choice for Southampton is the seasoned Oriol Romeu. In the number eight slots, James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong are typically preferred. Also arriving from the Rangers last week was Joe Aribo.

Additionally, Southampton is ready to make a profit off of the former France U21 international Diallo, according to sources from his native country. He moved here just two years ago in a £13 million transfer from Stade Brest.

Ibra put on the best performance of his Saints career in the storied 1-0 victory over Liverpool a year and a half ago, and Hasenhuttl agreed, saying, “I must also think Ibra was outstanding.”
