In 1992, Tinubu was elected to the Nigerian Senate, representing the Lagos West constituency. He served in the Senate until the military coup of 1993, which dissolved all political offices in the country. In 1999, with the return of democracy in Nigeria, Tinubu contested and won the Lagos State governorship election on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) party.

As governor of Lagos State, Tinubu implemented a number of policies that transformed the state. He introduced the “Lagos State Traffic Law” to regulate road use and reduce traffic congestion. He also established the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to improve the security situation in the state. Additionally, he initiated the construction of a new city center in the state, named “Eko Atlantic City.”

Tinubu’s political influence grew over the years, and he became a key figure in the merger that formed the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013. He was instrumental in the party’s victory in the 2015 presidential election, which saw the defeat of the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan.
