A teenager and his two grandparents were killed in a shooting at their family’s gun range, while robbers made off with 40 firearms.
According to police, the incident occurred at the Lock Stock & Barrel shooting range in Grantville, Georgia, on Friday evening.
What happened at Grantville gun range?
Richard Hawk, his wife Evelyn Hawk, both 75, and their grandson Luke Hawk, 17, were found dead when police arrived at the scene about 8 p.m.
Luke was helping his grandparents with their business over his spring break, according to Grantville Police Chief Steve Whitlock.
On Saturday morning, the Grantville Police Department posted on Facebook, “Let’s keep Richard Hawk and his family in our prayers.”
“Unfortunately, the owner, his wife, and their grandson had all been slain. Around 40 weapons, as well as the DVR camera, were removed from the site.”
Tommy and Evelyn, according to Whitlock, close up shop at 5.30 p.m. every afternoon and head home around 6 p.m.
When they didn’t return home on Friday evening, their son, Luke’s father, Richard Hawk, drove to the shooting range, where their dead were located inside the company, each one a few steps distant from the others, according to Whitlock.
Grantville gun range shooting
Investigators secured search warrants around midnight, according to Whitlock, and began processing the crime scene indoors.
According to the company’s website, the company has an inventory of weapons and ammo for sale, and Whitlock said detectives will be able to confirm whether guns, ammunition, or cash had been stolen soon.
Investigators have not yet said if they know what time the three people were shot.
Whitlock told Channel 2 that he has known the family for years and was friendly with them on a personal level.
Whitlock added Tommy and Evelyn Hawk had no employees and usually worked by themselves.
He said Tommy had had a stroke and as part of his recovery he was returning gradually to a full-time work schedule.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was also called in due to the amount of weapons taken.
Police are looking for witnesses and have not announced any arrests.
Anyone having driven by the shooting range during the time frame of 5.30pm to 6.30pm that may have seen vehicles other than a white Ford dually truck and a black Ford expedition are asked to contact the police department.
According to their website, Lock, Stock and Barrel has been a part of the small, tight-knit Grantville community for almost 30 years.
The shooting range is in rural Coweta County, about 50 miles southeast of Atlanta.
