After graduating, he went to Chicago and worked at an advertising agency. He worked in different departments, including copywriting.
During his career, he donated several books, prints, and other artifacts to various museums, libraries, and other institutions.
Adams started out as an elevator operator and worked his way up to becoming a copywriter. He then went on to create the Adams Newspaper Service, a newspaper syndicate that syndicated articles, comic strips, and other features around the world.
He also wrote essays and inspirational columns. Adams was married to Harriet I. Breese in 1905, and they had two children together. Adams died at the age of 79.
