Gaara continues to remember Yashamaru’s defeat and attempted suicide bombing as he thinks back on the character.

He is informed by Yashamaru that The Fourth Kazekage, the father of Gaara, gave him the order to kill Gaara. Additionally, he states that although he had the option to resist the order, he wanted to murder Gaara since he thought Gaara was to blame for the death of his sister.

When Yashamaru shows the explosive tags on his torso, his flak jacket explodes. Gaara was fortunate to survive the explosion, but in the process he lost the only person he ever believed to have shown any sign of affection for him.
