In a bicycle accident, media critic Eric Boehlert, who founded the Press Run website and wrote for Rolling Stone and Media Matters for America, was killed.

He was 57 years old at the time.

According to journalist Soledad O’Brien, a family friend, Boehlert was killed by a commuter train while riding near his home in Montclair, New Jersey, on Monday night.

On Wednesday, O’Brien, host of the syndicated Sunday talk show “Matter of Fact,” said that he specialized in exposing falsehoods and holding other journalists and politicians accountable.

“He was a staunch believer in facts and a protector of the truth,” she stated.

Hillary Clinton termed Boehlert’s death “sad news” on Twitter on Wednesday.

“I’m heartbroken for his family and friends, and I’ll miss his important work fighting disinformation and media prejudice,” she tweeted. “What a setback.”

He was also the author of the books “Lapdogs: How the Press Rolled Over for Bush” and “Bloggers on the Bus: How the Internet Changed Politics and the Press,” which he wrote for Salon and Billboard

Boehlert is survived by his two children and wife.
