The University has however described the motion by the Construction firm to auction off its property as premature.
According to Benjamin Zogbetor, the Acting Registrar of the University, Regent has been in discussion with the Obokom Civil Engineering Company to establish a fresh payment method as the previous one was unsuccesful.
Benjamin Zogbetor speaking to the press on Friday said “we have started payment, but because of the decreasing number of students, the arrangement did not go as expected and so we are in the process of re-negotiating with him on the payment”.
The construction company, Obokom Civil Engineering Limited, has proposed action to auction a multi-purpose six-storey building and other property’s of the Regent University College of Science and Technology in Accra to equalize a debt the university’s owes to the company.
The other propertys are a power generating set, a Tata bus, and two four-wheel vehicles.
This actions follows Regent University failure to pay an amount of $1.2 million and ¢2.1 million for the construction of the six-storey building by the construction firm which accommodates the university.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Nana Obokomatta, who is the Chief of Gomoa Dasum in the Central Region explained all tactics to get Regent University to pay the debt on time had proved unsuccessful hence giving them no option than to drag the institute to court twice.
The CEO said they will go to court a third time conclude the process for the selling of the university facility and other properties if necessary.
However, the Acting Registrar of the University has expressed confidence that the situation would be settled agreeably, adding that “the court order does not mean the school has been shut down”.
