In August 2013, Stefanik declared her candidacy in the 2014 election for the U.S. House of Representatives in New York’s 21st congressional district.

Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party nominee in 2009, endorsed Stefanik. At age 30, she became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at the time.
Stefanik was appointed to the House Armed Services Committee’s Policy Committee in January 2015 and vice-chair of its Subcommittee on Readiness in February 2015.
