Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, known professionally as Criss Angel, was born on December 19, 1967, at Hempstead General Hospital in Hempstead, on Long Island, New York, the United States of America to his parents John Sarantakos and Dimitra Sarantakos. He is 54 years old as of 2022.

Criss Angel’s father, John Sarantakos, was the owner of a restaurant and doughnut shop. He was brought up alongside two siblings JD Sarantakos and Costa Sarantakos. He is of Greek heritage. His family raised him in Elmont until fourth grade when they relocated to East Meadow, New York.

Criss Angel ignited a particular passion for magic when he was 7 years old and performed his first show at age 12. Talking about his educational background, he graduated from East Meadow High School. He went straight ahead to pursue a full-time career as a professional magician instead of going to college.

Criss Angel started his career in New York City. He later moved to establish his operational base in the Las Vegas Valley. He made his first television appearance in 1994, performing in the ABC primetime special entitled Secrets. He has made an appearance in The Science of Magic (1997) and its 2003 sequel The Science of Magic II,  CSI: NY,  Las Vegas and Rules of Engagement, and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013).

Criss Angel has also made appearances on WWE Raw, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Megan Mullally Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show among many others. His first television series was Criss Angel Mindfreak. He is a recipient of several awards and is a multiple world record holder.

Criss Angel was named Magician of the Decade in 2009 and Magician of the Century in 2010 by the International Magicians Society.  He won the International Magician Society’s Magician of the Year award in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. He was the 22nd recipient of the Louie Award for outstanding achievement in the art of magic.

Aside from being a magician, Criss Angel was the lead singer for his band Angeldust. He is the author of the book Mindfreak: Secret Revelations, published by HarperEntertainment in 2007. The book made it to the Los Angeles Times bestseller list in 2007. He made it to the covers of Magic and Genii magazines.

Criss Angel was among the inaugural nominees for the Harry Houdini Award, awarded by the Harry Houdini Museum in 2008. He is the youngest magician to ever be inducted into the International Magician Society’s Magic Hall of Fame. He is also the only man to have won the Merlin Magician of the Year award on two occasions, in 2001 and 2004.

In 2011, Criss Angel was awarded the World Magic Legacy Awards’ Living Legend award. He holds the Guinness world record for “The most people to disappear in an illusion”, after he made 100 people disappear in 2010, at a performance of Believe at the Luxor. He got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 20, 2017.

The couple is proud parents of two lovely sons together, born in 2014 and 2019, as well as a daughter born in 2021. His sons include Johnny Crisstopher Sarantakos and Xristos Yanni Sarantakos.
