Thomas Christopher Parnell is a comedian and actor from the United States. From 1998 to 2006, he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live and played Dr. Leo Spaceman on 30 Rock.
He has voiced Cyril Figgis on FX’s Archer, Jerry Smith on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, and the narrator on PBS Kids’ WordGirl.
He also appears as “The Progressive Box” in a series of Progressive Corporation advertisements.
Parnell was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to a Southern Baptist family. Jack Parnell, his father, was a Memphis radio personality.
He attended the Southern Baptist Educational Center and graduated from Germantown High School. At the age of 17, he decided to pursue acting as a career and aspired to be a theater actor.
He earned his BFA in Drama from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He moved to Houston, Texas after college to participate in an apprentice actor program at the Alley Theatre for a season, but was not asked back to join the company.
