Chaz Bono Movies and TV Shows
Born Chastity Sun, Chaz Salvatore Bono is an American author, musician, and performer. He rose to fame as a child performer on his parents’ television program, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. His parents are the comedians Sonny Bono and Cher. Bono is a trans man.
In a cover article for a prestigious American homosexual monthly magazine called The Advocate in 1995, Bono officially acknowledged as a lesbian despite still identifying as a woman and several years after being outed as such by the tabloid press. Later, in two books, Bono discussed the process of coming out to oneself and others. His coming-out story is contained in Family Outing: A Guide to the Coming Out Process for Gays, Lesbians, and Their Families (1998).
Bono underwent a gender change from female to man between 2008 and 2010. His transition began a year earlier, as was revealed in a two-part Entertainment Tonight documentary that aired in June 2009. He formally changed his name and gender in May 2010. Becoming Chaz, a documentary on Bono’s experience, made its television debut on the Oprah Winfrey Network after being presented at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
