“Chad, Matt & Rob” was an American group of filmmakers based in Los Angeles who rose into the spotlight following the success of their short films that combined comedy with horror, adventure, and sci-fi.
The group, Chad, Matt & Rob was initially made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Jonah Goldstein, Justin Martinez, Rob Polonsky and Chad Villella.
All of the group members are American citizens by nationality. The group was active from 2007 to 2011. In early 2007, the group Chad, Matt & Rob was formed by Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Rob Polonsky.
Their breakout short, the found footage style Alien Roommate Prank Goes Bad, was released in February 2008. The short has been viewed over 30,000,000 times as of now.
The group began to expand as Justin Martinez and Tyler Gillett joined in 2010. However, in 2011, Rob Polonsky left the group. The remaining four changed their collective name to Radio Silence.
The group, Chad, Matt & Rob had a YouTube channel, chadmattandrob, which has been active since 2007. The channel has gained around 133 thousand subscribers and total views of 69.02 million as of 2022.
Chad, Matt & Rob have created notable works including a series of found footage-style “Pranks Gone Wrong” videos as well as a collection of Choose Your Own Adventure-style films dubbed Chad, Matt & Rob’s Interactive Adventures.
Chad, Matt & Rob are also known for their first viral video Chad Hates Aliens (also known as Roommate Alien Prank Goes Bad) which was released on February 25, 2008. Other videos include Let’s Go Meet Some Animals! (Prank Fails Horribly) released September 9, 2008 and Mountain Devil Prank Fails Horribly (released April 22, 2010).
The Radio Silence collective was made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez and Chad Villella. Radio Silence directed a segment for the feature film V/H/S.
The film V/H/S premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film was acquired by Magnolia Pictures and released theatrically on October 5, 2012.
