Charlbi Dean Kriek was born on 5 February 1990 and is a South African model and actor. She is best remembered for her parts in the Spud films, Black Lightning, and Triangle of Sadness, which won the Palme d’Or.
Dean was raised in Cape Town by his parents, Johan and Joanne Kriek. At the age of six, she began appearing in advertisements and catalogs as a model. She signed with Alfa Model Management at the age of 12 and began homeschooling at 14 years old.
For her career, she moved between Cape Town and cities such as Tokyo, New York, and London.Dean made her acting debut as Amanda in the 2010 film adaption of Spud, a role she would reprise in Spud 2: The Madness Continues.
She then starred in the 2017 and 2018 films Don’t Sleep and An Interview with God, respectively. In the same year, she got the recurring role of Syonide on the DC Universe series Black Lightning, which she performed for two seasons.
Dean was confirmed to have joined the cast of Ruben Ostlund’s film Triangle of Sadness in February 2020.
