Bo Burnham is a skilled American comedian, musician, writer, actor, and director who has received well-deserved praise for his comedy special Inside and the coming-of-age film Eighth Grade.

Robert Pickering “Bo” Burnham was born on August 21, 1990, in Hamilton, Massachusetts, the United States of America. He is 32 years old as of 2022.


Bo Burnham’s mother Patrice Burnham is a hospice nurse while his father Scott Burnham is a construction company owner. He was raised alongside two siblings who are both working for the family’s construction company.

Bo Burnham has an older sister named Samm and an older brother named Pete Burnham. His family is of Catholic origins. Regarding his educational background, he attended St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts where he graduated in 2008 and was on the honour roll.


Bo Burnham later got admitted to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, however, he deferred his admission for a year in an attempt to pursue a career in comedy. He eventually never attended the university.

Bo Burnham started his career on the major streaming platform, YouTube in 2006. His YouTube channel, boburnham, contains music and comedy content. So far, his channel has gained around 3.25 million subscribers alongside total views of 640.7 million.

Following his successful YouTube channel, Bo Burnham rose into the spotlight and gained recognition in the early 2010s for his satirical and stand-up and musical comedy. So far, he released four comedy albums between 2008 and 2013 on Comedy Central Records, and produced three comedy specials—Words, Words, Words (2010), what (2013), and Make Happy (2016).

Bo Burnham became the youngest person to record a performance in London for Comedy Central at the age of 17 after he recorded for Comedy Central’s The World Stands Up in January 2008. He later signed a four-record deal with Comedy Central Records, who released Burnham’s first EP, the six-song Bo fo Sho, in 2008.

Bo Burnham released his first full album, the self-titled Bo Burnham on March 10, 2009. He was nominated for “Best Comedy Show” at the 2010 Edinburgh Comedy Awards in August 2010. He is the recipient of the “Panel Prize” in 2010.

Bo Burnham wrote and directed his first feature film, Eighth Grade, which later received the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – First-Time Feature Film.

Bo Burnham has also worked on Jerrod Carmichael’s comedy special 8 (2017),  Chris Rock’s comedy special Tamborine (2018), Promising Young Woman (2020), and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (2021).
