Amber Laura Heard (born April 22, 1986) is an American actress best known for her appearances in Never Back Down (2008), Drive Angry (2011), and The Rum Diary, as well as for portraying Mera in Aquaman (2018) and its forthcoming 2023 sequel.
In 2018, she was named an ACLU ambassador for women’s rights and an OHCHR Human Rights Champion.
Heard was born in Austin, Texas, to internet researcher Patricia Paige (née Parsons) (1956–2020) and small construction business owner David Clinton Heard (born 1950). Whitney is her younger sister.
The household was located outside of Austin. Heard’s father trained horses as a hobby, and she grew up hunting, fishing, and riding horses with him. She also participated in beauty pageants, although claiming as an adult that she could no longer “accept the objectification.”
Heard was raised Catholic but began identifying as an atheist at the age of sixteen, following the death of her best friend in a car accident. The next year, Heard declared that she no longer felt at home in “conservative, God-fearing Texas”
and left her Catholic high school to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. She received her diploma through a home-study program.
