Bassist Alec John Such, a founding member of Bon Jovi, died at the age of 70, Jon Bon Jovi announced on social media today (June 5).
A cause of death is as yet unknown. “We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend Alec John Such,” Bon Jovi posted. “He was an original.

From 1983 to 1994, he was the former bass guitarist for the rock band Bon Jovi. Such appeared on Bon Jovi’s self-titled debut studio album in 1984 and 7800° Fahrenheit in 1985.
He also appeared on the Bon Jovi album Slippery When Wet, which debuted at number one in the United States, Australia, Canada, Finland, and Switzerland in 1986.
He appeared on the Bon Jovi album New Jersey in 1988, which went to number one in six countries, and on the album Keep the Faith in 1992, which went to number one in two countries and reached the top ten in eight others.
He appeared on several Bon Jovi singles, including “Runaway,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “Bad Medicine,” “I’ll Be There for You,” “Always,” and others.
Following his departure from the band, Such managed the band 7th Heaven. He owns a motorcycle shop in New York City and performed with Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium before retiring from music in 2001.
